Postcards from the Past Competition

Postcard from the Past 2 Postcards from the Past invites participants to write a postcard from a specific year in history as though written by a fictional or real character. It is free to enter, open to anyone from age 8 upwards and will run until July 2013. Winners from each category will have their postcard designed professionally and will receive 100 copies of it for their own use. Winners will also receive a full set of printed postcards from our celebrity contributors and from other category winners.

Age ranges are:
Entries will be a short postcard (no more than 200 words) as though written by a character (real or imaginary – it could be yourself) from a specific year in history. The postcard can be written to a specific person or just to a generic 'reader'. Postcards can be written in any style or genre. Illustrations can be included – we won't judge these but, if your postcard is selected as a winner, we may use your illustration in the design.

The overall competition deadline is 20th July 2013 but we hope that schools and other organisations and practitioners will use the resources and ideas on this website to enhance their own projects and lessons, or simply to run their own competition heats throughout the year.

Postcards from the Past is a collaboration between the Manchester Children's Book Festival and the Manchester Literature Festival and is supported by Manchester Metropolitan University and the Midland Hotel.
